A-Rose From

from the lateral cane

she was cut

a long stemmed beauty

fragrant petals pleasing

gathered with eleven others for gift

in lapels and on table tops

in hair and

for parting of teeth

glory to the men who wore her

an honor for those who received her

a token of love

from those who gave her


of envy for those who

received not the gift


nourishment dwindled

away from the garden

and as fragrant petals fell

she was
