The Mystery of Enoch (Genesis 5:21-24)

Genesis 5:21-24
(ETRV)
21 After Enoch was 65 years of s 65 years old, he had a son named Methuselah. 22 After Methuselah was born, Enoch walked with God for 300 years and had other sons and daughters. 23 So Enoch lived a total of 365 years. 24 One day Enoch was walking with God, and he disappeared. God took him.
  • Enoch lived a full life before God took him.
  • Is it possible that the taking of Enoch was not the same as when God takes an innocent newborn or an aged senior?  Might it be more like the morphing of a person into a more recognizable being, where the glory of God overwhelms all else?  A more palatable situation in which there would be no death involved . . .

Genesis 5:19-24 (KJV) 19 And Jared lived after he begat Enoch eight hundred years, and begat sons and daughters: 20 And all the days of Jared were nine hundred sixty and two years: and he died. 21 And Enoch lived sixty and five years, and begat Methuselah: 22 And Enoch walked with God after he begat Methuselah three hundred years, and begat sons and daughters: 23 And all the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty and five years: 24 And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.

An aside:

Ever wonder if years were measured differently then? Maybe 1 year today would be 2.5 years back then, with an incremental annual increase of speed in the aging process beginning in the 30th year? If not, and Enoch enjoyed good health, why so long on earth with no additional children?

1 Chronicles 1:1 (ETRV) 1 The first generations of people were Adam, Seth, Enosh, Kenan, Mahalalel, Jared, Enoch, Methuselah, Lamech, and Noah.

  • I'm not sure how this Scripture relates to the above Scriptures, but I was drawn to it as I studied Genesis 5:21-24.  But have you ever wondered why Cain and Abel are not mentioned in the first generations?

Ephesians 6:12-18 (ETRV) 12 Our fight is not against people on earth. We are fighting against the rulers and authorities and the powers of this world's darkness. We are fighting against the spiritual powers of evil in the heavenly places. 13 That is why you need to get God's full armor. Then on the day of evil, you will be able to stand strong. And when you have finished the whole fight, you will still be standing.

14 So stand strong with the belt of truth tied around your waist, and on your chest wear the protection of right living. 15 On your feet wear the Good News of peace to help you stand strong. 16 And also use the shield of faith with which you can stop all the burning arrows that come from the Evil One. 17 Accept God's salvation as your helmet. And take the sword of the Spirit that sword is the teaching of God. 18 Pray in the Spirit at all times. Pray with all kinds of prayers, and ask for everything you need. To do this you must always be ready. Never give up. Always pray for all of God's people.
  • When we are covered with the armor of God, Satan can not recognize us. He only sees God who has defeated Him.
  • Or better said, Satan only sees God when we wear God's armor, and to him we are not.

That's as I Understand It.    . . . I think?
