Notes To The Family

What Believers Want

As A Believer What do I Want That The Bible Indicates I Am Entitled To?

I’d want health, and long life . . . they go together. Who’d want long life without health? I suppose someone could relish health alone, not knowing that it would be short live.1

And I’d want prosperity. After all, what good is health and long life if I am not able to provide for my family now and into the future? Prosperity is different from wealth or being wealthy in that it entails the ability to get wealth.2

The will to succeed.3 While prosperity and success are very similar, success has to do with the accomplishment of one’s goals, not just financial goals, an individual’s accomplishment. Unlike every thing else we have been given in Christ, we succeed by our own efforts, though those efforts are carefully prescribed. Joshua 1:7-8 prescribes very specific actions that bring about our good success–

Joshua 1:7-8(KJV)
{7} Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest.  {8}This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

This confessing of God’s word works only works if we do it. Jesus cannot do it for us. Seems too simple, like a mantra.

Success is the favorable or prosperous termination of attempts or endeavors; the accomplishment of one's goals.

END NOTES

1. Health and Long Life

Proverbs 16:24 Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.

Isaiah 53:5(KJV)  But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

2. Prosperity

Psalms 1:1-3(KJV)   {1} Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. {2} But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. {3}And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

Psalms 35:27(KJV)  {27} Let them shout for joy, and be glad, that favour my righteous cause: yea, let them say continually, Let the LORD be magnified, which hath pleasure in the prosperity of his servant.

Psalm 67 (KJV)    {1} God be merciful unto us, and bless us; and cause his face to shine upon us; Selah. {2} That thy way may be known upon earth, thy saving health among all nations. {3} Let the people praise thee, O God; let all the people praise thee. {4} O let the nations be glad and sing for joy: for thou shalt judge the people righteously, and govern the nations upon earth. Selah. {5} Let the people praise thee, O God; let all the people praise thee. {6} Then shall the earth yield her increase; and God, even our own God, shall bless us. {7} God shall bless us; and all the ends of the earth shall fear him.
